Asheville elopement & courthouse photography

Asheville Elopement Photographer

Two of you, maybe a few people you love, and a day that moves at your pace. We photograph it the way it actually felt.

Why elope here

A small wedding is still a whole story

Eloping gets described as the "easy" option. In our experience it is the brave one. You are choosing the day you actually want over the day you were told to have, and that deserves photographs made with the same care as a 300-guest reception.

Asheville makes it easy to say yes. Within an hour of downtown you have long-range views off the Blue Ridge Parkway, quiet hardwood forest, waterfalls, and a downtown full of brick, murals and good coffee. You can be married at sunrise on a ridge and eating biscuits by nine.

We are based here, so the planning help is local and specific: which overlooks get crowded on October weekends, where the light falls in the late afternoon, and how long a "short walk" really is in a wedding dress.

A real courthouse wedding

Giuliette & Will at the Buncombe County Courthouse

In November 2025 we photographed Giuliette and Will's courthouse wedding in downtown Asheville. The ceremony itself took a few minutes. The rest of the afternoon was theirs: a walk through downtown, a quiet corner of a library, cake and coffee at a little table by the window.

That is what we love about courthouse weddings. There is no schedule to protect, so we follow you. We step in for a portrait when the light is right and step back when you just want to sit together and let it sink in.

If a courthouse ceremony is the plan, we can help you think through timing, where to go afterward for photos, and how to keep it feeling like a celebration rather than an errand.

How it works

Planning an elopement with us

Every elopement is different, but most follow the same simple shape.

  1. A real conversation first

We start with a relaxed call. Tell us what you are picturing: sunrise or sunset, a hike or a short walk from the car, just the two of you or a handful of guests. No pitch, no pressure.

  2. Location and light

We help you pick a spot that suits your day and your footwear, and time it so the light works with you. For popular overlooks, we plan around crowds and give you a backup nearby.

  3. The paperwork, simply

You will need a North Carolina marriage license, an officiant and two witnesses. In Buncombe County, both of you apply in person at the Register of Deeds, and the license is valid for 60 days anywhere in the state. Always confirm current details with the county before you travel.

  4. The day itself

We photograph the getting-ready moments, the vows, the people who came, and portraits in the landscape. Our direction is light: prompts, not poses. Most couples tell us they forgot we were there.

  5. Your gallery

Every image is hand-edited with true, lasting color and delivered in an online gallery you can download, share and print. Full printing rights are included.

Our approach

Fine art meets documentary

We do not use trendy presets or stiff poses. The goal is photographs that will look as honest in thirty years as they do now: candid and raw, but composed with care. Clean focus, true tones, everything placed with intention.

On an elopement that matters even more. With fewer people around, the small things carry the story: the way your hands shake signing the license, the wind catching a veil, the moment you both start laughing for no reason. We are there for those, and we keep the camera out of the way of everything else.

If you are nervous about being in front of a camera, you are in good company. Most of the couples we photograph say so up front. We will guide you when it helps and leave you alone when it does not.

FAQ

Questions couples ask us

How much does an Asheville elopement photographer cost?

Our elopement and courthouse coverage is priced separately from full wedding collections, and quoted on a short call. Full wedding collections start at $2,400, and most couples spend between $2,800 and $3,600. The final number depends on hours of coverage, location and travel. See our pricing page or reach out and we will send a quote for your exact plan.

Do you photograph courthouse weddings at the Buncombe County Courthouse?

Yes. We photographed Giuliette and Will’s courthouse wedding in downtown Asheville and love the format. Civil ceremonies are booked through the county, and schedules change, so check the current process with Buncombe County before you set a time. We will build the photo plan around whatever slot you get.

Where can we elope near Asheville?

Common choices include Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks, forest trails, waterfalls, private land, and small venues that offer elopement packages. Some public lands require permits or limit group sizes, and rules change, so we will point you to the managing agency to confirm before you book. Tell us how far you want to walk and what kind of view you want, and we will suggest a few options.

What do we need to get legally married in North Carolina?

A North Carolina marriage license, an officiant and two witnesses who are at least 18. In Buncombe County both of you apply in person at the Register of Deeds, and the license is good for 60 days anywhere in the state. Confirm current requirements with the county, since fees and ID rules can change.

How many photos do we get?

Our collections include 50+ professionally edited images per hour of coverage, delivered in a high-resolution online gallery with full printing rights.

Can guests come to our elopement?

Of course. Some couples bring no one, some bring parents, some bring twenty people. If your guest list grows past about fifty, take a look at our micro wedding page too.
